BRIEF STORY OF EHD (Homeless Animals Protection Society) JOURNEY

Everything began the day our way crossed the IMM (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality) Sariyer shelter. There we saw animals dumped and nearly forgotten, most of them sick, trying to eat bread from holes on concrete filled with feces and bloody urine.

We couldn’t leave the place like nothing happened, we couldn’t have forgotten what we had seen.

We dedicated ourselves to the place which in two years turned out to be a rehabilitation center which gave neutering service to all of Sariyer district.

We worked night and day for six years, neutering and releasing thousands of dogs, medically treating and rehoming many.

And one day IMM decided to shut down the place. We left the place after rehoming our last dog. This was the end of the Sariyer chapter of our story. Our hearts were tired with many good and bad memories, disappointments and the burden of what we had learned about the dark side of mankind but our soul was in peace for having spent six years of our life this way.

In 2006, we decided to join forces with SHKD. EHD still continues its legal identity as a NGO registered to Istanbul Government, and runs its activities in cooperation with SHKD. We work for rehoming, medical treatment and nutrition needs of SHKD dogs and other stray animals.

For this reason, please visit SHKD web page at www.shkd.org and our blog at www.ehdkd.blogspot.com to get information about our activities.
